U S Jets Down Three MIGS West of Hanoi in Oct Battle

U S Air Force jets claimed three North Vietnamese MIGs shot down in a dogfight west of Hanoi on Oct 15. No U S losses reported. The strike came as Navy carriers pounded Hai Yen base near Vinh and Haiphong boatyard with B 52s, while ground clashes intensified around Pleiku and Bung Cau on the central highlands front.

Boggs Missing Plane Sought By Wide Air Search

A missing light plane carrying House Democratic Leader Hale Boggs and three others prompted a large search by three military planes and dozens of aircraft from the Rescue Coordination Center at Elemendorf AFB. Also aboard were Rep. Nick Begich, 40, Begich aide Russell L Brown, 37, and pilot Don E Jonz. Clouds rain and fog hampered the effort as Coast Guard cutters joined the hunt.

Tragic Ohio Weekend Traffic Toll Tops Twenty Eight

At least 28 people died in Ohio traffic crashes over the weekend. Among the dead were five teenagers killed in a Cincinnati area crash when a carload of youths lost control and struck another vehicle. Five more pedestrians and two motorcyclists died in separate weekend incidents.

Baby girl in Newport hospital transfusion paused by court order

A newborn girl abducted from St Luke Hospital in Newport prompted doctors to seek a blood transfusion to correct an RH incompatibility. The infant’s father, a Jehovah’s Witness, took the baby Saturday night. Campbell County Juvenile Court Judge Bruce Lester issued a court order under a new Kentucky law allowing the transfusion.
