Officers and Directors of Mason County Red Cross Elected
The Mason County Chapter of the American Red Cross elected officers and directors for the coming year at its annual meeting in Point Pleasant. CH. Withe r was named chairman, J. C. Pauley vice chair man, Mrs. William H. Bardin recording secretary, and Mrs. Milne Miller treasurer. The board includes Mrs. A B Woodrum, Mrs. R F Bryant, Dr. D W Smith, Dr. E Kulttner, FW Ingraham, T C Caudill, Mrs. Kerry Blain, and Mrs. James Sheran plus others from Ashton and South Side. The session opened with a glee club performance and an address by Earl Titman, recounting Red Cross work in the Middle East.

In Paint Pleasant a bullet tore through a mezzanine window of O. J. Morrison department store Saturday near 5 p.m. Shoppers crowded the store as Chief of Police Jividen and Patrolman Yeager investigated. No definite information yet. belief is an accidental shot. Mrs. Howard, a mezzanine manager, stood nearby.

Kentucky native George W. Childers dies at 86
George W. Childers aged 86 of Kentucky died Saturday at his son W. B. Childers's home in Gallipolis Dam after a two day illness. He lived with his son ten years and his funeral will be in Irvine, Ky. He was a former merchant. Survived by two sons, two brothers, a sister, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Sergeant Carl Dyer Dies in France During War Time
Mrs Kath Jeen Roush Dyer, of Point Pleasant, reports husband Sergeant William Carl Dyer died in France on Sept 11 while with General Patton's Fifth Army. Survived by widow, parents Harry and Emma Dyer, three brothers Maurice Ensign, Nigel, and John, two sisters Mrs Harry Lane and Betty Jo. Also notes Lieut Robert L Bedell lost at sea in Pacific. Bedell was NY native and Army Air Corps member who worked in Charleston prior to service. Brown family connections noted.

Former Mason resident Worthy Dunlavy dies at 69
Worthy Dunlavy of Smithers died after a two week illness including a heart attack and pneumonia. He previously lived in Mason County and worked in Fayette County mercantile business. Two Men Arrested for Intoxication Here This Weekend
Clifton resident Clyne Cunningham and Apple Grove resident James Nowlin were arrested by Patrolman Yeager for intoxication. Nowlin was released to the city. Cunningham, who had recently served a short jail term, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail plus a $10 fine and costs.

Mrs Norah Ecker age 84 died 7 00 Saturday night at daughter Mrs E E Hatfield home after long illness. A lifelong Gallia County resident she taught in local county schools before marriage to Charles L Ecker who died August 1928.
