Bolivian Sunset gloxinia delights shade gardens in Savannah
The Bolivian Sunset groundcover, botanically Seemaniania sylvatica, is a hardy, shade tolerant plant from Bolivia and Peru. It forms an 8 foot wide by 12 to 18 inch tall spreading rhizomatous mat, blooms from late August to spring in mild climates, with fiery orange red tubular flowers and a yellow throat that attract hummingbirds and pollinators. It thrives in fertile, well drained soil and performs well in containers or landscapes, pairing well with hostas and ferns near tropical gingers.
