In Nelsonville Mayor William Hoff man presided over a busy week in court. Mahendra Shah of Logan pleaded guilty to excess speed and paid 10 dollars plus costs. Joseph R. Cheeseman of Nelsonville Route 1 admitted guilt for operating a vehicle on a temporary permit without a licensed operator and was fined 10 dollars plus costs. John Byers of Nelsonville pleaded guilty to intoxication and was fined 10 dollars plus costs. Sandra Sue Dane of Murray City pleaded no contest to failure to yield after a Chestnut and Fourth Street collision and was fined 20 dollars plus costs with 10 dollars suspended. Flora A. Charcoal Blaze At McArthur Charcoal Plant
A kiln at the McArthur Brick plant in Nelsonville burned out of control Friday afternoon. Firefighters fought the blaze for three hours before Clarence Shutts resealed the kiln doors. The kiln held 30 tons of charcoal wood and officials reported the charcoal unharmed. The plant, started in spring, has shown successful results to date. Nelsonville notices birth of David Joseph Johnson October 12 at Mount St. Mary Hospital with grandparents and great-grandparents named.
