The four-power war crimes court at Berlin serves the indictment against 24 German defendants for mass murders, gassing, torture, and plunder in Nazi crimes. The document cites about 10,000,000 civilian and POW victims, with 4,000,000 slain at Auschwitz and 1,500,000 under Nazi domination.
Allied prosecutors list 24 defendants including Goering Hess Ribbentrop Keitel Jod Doenitz Krupp Schacht. Nearly 25 000 veterans of the war in the Pacific are to disembark today at two west coast ports with more than 14 troop carrying ships due. East coast arrivals total about 8 100 troops on four ships. BUENOS AIRES. Col. Juan Domingo Peron will be permitted by the Army to run for president next April 7 a reliable source reported today as a stunned populace accepted his swift return to power. Washington reports butter may cost fewer red points next month but cash prices rise by five to six cents per pound beginning in November as the government subsidy to butter processors ends. The current 12 point butter ration could drop to eight when Oct 28 marks the subsidy withdrawal, amid Army releases of 80 million pounds of butter and ongoing meat ration reductions. Secretary Anderson notes most food subsidies will end by July with sugar among the few lasting awhile.
