Post office in Glouster was looted Sunday night about 10:30 by armed men using a machine gun in a car. They forced Postmaster H. F. Hambel to accompany them to the office, opened the vault and the safe, then returned him home and warned him not to speak for an hour.

Chicago October 12. Capone, the gangster, faces a federal prison term after a jury found him guilty on three felonies and two misdemeanors tied to evading $215,000 in taxes. U.S. District Judge James H. Wilkerson said sentence would be pronounced tomorrow morning. Capone may receive up to 37 years and a $50,000 fine. He prepared to appeal and await a potential new trial while his six month contempt sentence remains pending. Capone planned a Florida vacation after the tax case.
Dorothea Vernon Barlow a noted WLW radio entertainer dies after a brief illness. Funeral services were held in Cincinnati and burial is planned in Norwalk Ohio. The performer’s death was reported on Saturday.
Fire destroyed the Glenroy Ewing three story grocery and the Red Anchor Department Store in Pomeroy's lower business block. Firefighters from Middleport Gallipolis Pt Pleasant aided the town crew in a five hour battle that damaged Ruben, Bargain and other shops along Main Street. Woman rescued from a First City Bank Building, and most of Red Anchor stock was lost. Insurance covers about one fourth of the Red Anchor losses. The cause under investigation with defec tive wiring among theories.
Clayton Edgar Starr 70 died at home on Race Street after a lingering illness. Funeral at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the residence, Rev. Reed J. Downs officiating. Burial in Hebbardsville Cemetery. Starr born April 19 1961 in Rising Sun, long-time Magin County resident, former Athens City Council member, owned two businesses including a Plains general store. Survived by widow, two sons Dr D E B Starr Mt. Sterling and Everett M Starr Huntington WVa, daughter Miss Elma Starr Madison WVa, three grandsons, brother Eiza Starr Rutland.
