Washington AP report says Congress faces a major postwar task as President Truman may soon ask for universal military training. The plan would set up a permanent status for a unified armed forces and involve debates on merging Army and Navy departments.
In Columbus a new control device demonstrated by E R Kaiser of Bituminous Coal Research shows smoke from five steam locomotives clearing when a keyed over fire steam jet redirects air over the coal. Richard Engdah of Battelle Institute described the insulated nozzle jet. About 680 locomotives already equipped. over 200 attendees including municipal smoke officials and engineers.

A 45 cow Holstein herd at Lebanon State Farm completed a year of production testing with average butterfat production more than double the national average. The herd averaged 453 pounds of butterfat and 13,431 pounds of milk per cow.
