Pomeroy Council Approves Postwar Plan for City Projects

W A Smith of the Pomeroy Chamber of Commerce presented a 12 point postwar improvement program. The council praised the plan including a new hospital, sewage system, municipal building, airport landing strip, and restored recreation facilities. Mayor Flower called the program splendid and urged cooperative effort with the chamber as routine bill payments were approved.

Mayor Howell warns Halloween pranks will be prosecuted

Mayor Geoff Howell today warned Halloweeners causing trouble and numerous police complaints that window soaping and property destruction must stop. With two weeks until Halloween, continued pranks will lead to prosecution.

Indicted Men Appear Before Judge Ervin in Meigs County

Arraignments held for three cases listed for Oct. 23 in Meigs County Common Pleas Court. Paul Hendricks pleaded guilty with sentence to follow. Lawrence Gilmore and Charles Frazier also pled guilty. George Butcher, 19, was sentenced to not less than one year but up to 20 years with conditions including returning a revenue stamp and bond. Mrs. Gus Carson posted bond for the youth.

Pomeroy High Urged To Pay For Jeep

Pomeroy Senior High students launch War Stamps and Bonds sale to raise 1165 for an army jeep. The drive includes pledges, a panel plaque, and a Schools at War flag conditional on 90 percent participation. Local faculty and students promote patriotism and organize chairmen to lead the effort.

Funeral services for Mrs Ellen Litle in Wellston

Mrs Ellen Litle aged resident of the district died Tuesday at her son in law and daughter Ray and and Mrs Ray Halliday Wellston. Funeral held Thursday at Nazarene Church with burial Castor Cemetery. Attendance Near 5 Million In American Loop Race

The American League reports paid attendance of 4,798,158 for 1944, nearing the league record and surpassing last year’s total by over a million. PTA Council Meets at Pomeroy High School Auditorium

The Meigs County PTA council met at Pomeroy Senior High School auditorium under county chairman Mrs. Vernon Howell. Attending units included Syracuse Junior and Senior High Cenval Middleport Laurel Clift. Supt. W. H. Smith awarded a germicidal lamp for installation in local schools. Next meeting is the first Thursday in February in Syracuse at 10 am with lunch.

Nephew of Bellaire Parents Killed in Action in France

Young, son of Mr and Mrs Ben Martin of Bellaire, was killed in action September 1 in France. Survived by his parents his wife and a baby daughter he never saw and two brothers Einer Young and George. Einer was wounded in France and awarded the Purple Heart and George landed in England June 1. Mrs Young and Mrs Martin are Astors.
