Ohio University football players arrived in Athens after a trip to Washington Annapolis and Annapolis with many out of town supporters. Injuries sidelined tackle Bernny McCashen end Bob Hilbert and quarterback Henry Corradini.
Conrad H. Mann a prominent Kansas City businessman and director general of the Fraternal Order of Eagles will go on trial November 14 on charges of violating federal lottery laws.
Gallia County story reports John Fulton 27 expected to plead self defense at murder trial for killing Homer Houck 47 at White Oak. Fulton jailed awaiting preliminary hearing. he is the sole witness and says Houck attacked with bloodied tongs during a dispute over a woman. Fulton wounded himself with a .22 revolver after the shooting.
Fred 8. Moore, a wealthy Lodi Township farmer, indicted for first degree murder in the Sept. 28 shooting of his father in law Opha G. Stover at Carseytown, was freed on a $15000 bond after arraignment in Athens County Common Pleas Court where he pleaded not guilty. Witness Garrison Tucker was freed on $2500 bond, Ray Young faced breaking and entering larceny charges with $1000 bond, and James O'Neil faced riot and assault charges with $300 bond.
News of Phillip Welch death from Los Angeles came in Athens today after a post surgical death at his home. He was son of the late Major Johnson M. Welch and Mrs. Welch and the youngest member of the old Athens family once living on University Terrace. Welch helped found a home in Los Angeles twenty years ago and played quarterback for Ohio University’s famed 1897 football team. He leaves a widow.
POMEROY October 17 Six apples weighing a total of five pounds were exhibited by J. J. Ables of Syracuse Meigs County. The stayman winesap fruits were unusually large with nearly perfect specimens. Ables follows Ohio State University spraying guidance distributed by county extension agent George W. Kreitler.
Hollywood report states actress Ann Harding left a New York hotel without paying a $155.78 bill, now pursued in a filed suit. The action notes she checked out last year and a court filing records the claim.
Chancellor Franz Von Papen told Westphalian industrialists Germany can pay with goods only and warned creditor nations must revise tariffs or lose access to German trade. Mrs. William Davis and Clara of 78 East Mulberry Street traveled to Cleveland after the death of Billy Davis three years old son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Davis of Cleveland. Billy fell ill with pneumonia Wednesday and died Sunday at Cleveland Hospital. Burial is set for Wellsville Ohio Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Raymond Davis once lived in Athens and both graduated from Ohio University.
Five members of the Cleveland Balloon Club returned safely after a hazardous 270 mile flight to Canadaizua New York on Saturday. They reached an altitude of 15000 feet and endured sub freezing temperatures during the voyage.
In Detroit on October 17 a meteorite tore through the roof of a car, striking Mrs. Arnold De Vantier on the head while her husband Arnold heard a ripping sound and his wife collapsed to the floor.

In Vienna on Sunday a clash between Nazists and Socialists in a slum district left three National Socialists and one policeman dead and many injured. Police and authorities reported the unrest escalated to a deadly confrontation with numerous casualties.

Mihin Pasare, a peasant in BALS Romania, barricaded in a hayloft, began a fourth day of sniping at police and gendarmes. William G. Hay age 86, a pioneer Coshocton County coal operator, died Sunday from a cerebral hemorrhage. A daughter, Mrs. Carl Russell of Mansfield, survived him.
