Hocking Brick Strike Continues

Local 882 of the United Brick and Clay Workers Union represents 39 employees at General Hocking Brick Co. and has been on strike seven of 26 days. Negotiations began 11 days ago with three meetings, the last attended by company president Harold Epler. The union seeks job bidding and plant wide seniority and a contract similar to that at Baltic and Wadsworth. Workers cite non economic demands and stare down a prolonged stoppage as kilns are shut. Donations fund meals and fuel for picketers while some members seek other jobs, with potential member losses in coming days.
