TVA Settles on Coal Purchase Contracts in Bid Shift
TVA board approves 22 negotiated coal contracts totaling 93 million tons worth about 2.3 billion dollars. The move sustains purchases for at least five months amid a planned UMW strike while EPA standards push higher prices and cleaner coal. R and F Coal Co contract covers 44.6 million tons over 17 years sourced from Ohio surface mines. Shell Oil subsidiary acquisition noted.
