West German airliner hijackers set a second ransom deadline after one pilot died and eight passengers remained aboard the Lufthansa jet in Mogadishu. They demanded 13 prisoners in West Germany and Turkey and 15 million dollars. no compliance was announced as the deadline passed.
A simple Catholic funeral is planned for Bing Crosby in Los Angeles on Tuesday. His body will arrive tonight from Spain with his son Harry 19. Crosby died of a heart attack in Madrid after golf. He will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery beside his parents and Dixie Lee. Kathryn Crosby says the service will be a low Mass with only children and close family present.
Gov Jay Rockefeller will attend a Wednesday ceremony in Point Pleasant West Virginia to mark the reopening of the Silver Memorial Bridge over the Ohio River after a weld crack closed the span on July 6. The bridge, completed in 1970 to replace the collapsed Silver Bridge of 1967, will operate with two lanes while minor defects are fixed. The event was urged by Chamber of Commerce president G A Biggs and supported by Del Dave O Neal.
