In New York on October 12, Edward W. Browning blamed his mother-in-law, Mrs. Heenan, for keeping his 16-year-old wife Peaches Heenan away. Browning said he does not know her whereabouts and hopes she will return, describing the latch string as out.
In New York City younger students visit the Metropolitan Museum to learn about art as a basic part of education. A new illustrated booklet by the American Federation of Arts encourages art at home with inexpensive, simple materials. Enclose four cents for postage and handling to obtain a copy.

Otis Kuhn of Logan was shot while driving along Gibisonville road early Monday. Six shotgun pellets struck him, two in each shoulder and two in the right side. Officials consider mistaken identity or accidental shooting. Kuhn did not see the shooter and continued to Gibisonville for potatoes before returning to Logan for medical aid.
The American Legion weighs moving its next convention to Paris after a regional meeting approved a resolution to shield the Paris gathering from any unconstitutional or improper criticism. Vice President Dawes urged reform of direct primaries calling for a return to party nomination methods, and highlighted low voter turnout as a danger to democracy.
Washington Oct 12 The Agriculture Department predicts average size crops for the season due to late favorable weather. Yields across virtually all crops are expected to match the ten year average despite September frosts in the northwest and heavy rains in central states.
Three men wounded when John Thomas, a Shawnee miner, ran amuck with a shotgun. Physicians today expect them to recover.
Provisional Sub-District President Oral Daugherty ordered all Ohio Collieries mines closed after a dispute over resumes at Hollister and related mines. Several hundred miners affected as No 266 did not start and railroad car shortages hindered operations. Superintendent Brown said workers were told to move to other sites but refused.
In Urbana on October 12 a special grand jury will be convened to seek a first degree murder indictment against Harry Sprague, a war veteran, in the death of Sheriff J K Bosler. Mrs Bosler is to succeed her husband as Champaign county sheriff after his slaying. Sprague, released from the state hospital for the insane at Columbus, remained jailed and asked to wear a hat with two bullet holes from police during the confrontation.
Ira Myers of Chauncey owned a coyote that broke from a pen last week and was pursued by a posse with dogs along Sunday Creek. It was eventually shot in the wilderness after failed capture efforts. The Myers family had recently returned from Colorado with two coyotes. The animals had been exhibited at Athens county fair in August.
