Medicare spent 1.5 billion on faulty heart devices over decade
A government watchdog says Medicare paid at least 1.5 billion dollars from 2005 to 2014 to replace seven defective heart devices. About 73,000 beneficiaries had devices replaced due to recalls or premature failures, with 140 million in out-of-pocket costs. The report urges detailed device reporting to speed recalls and reduce costs while protecting patients.
