The Nixon administration plans mandatory allocation of home heating oil to ensure northern areas receive fuel this winter. The rule may extend to diesel, kerosene, jet fuel, and propane with priority for essential customers such as farmers hospitals and schools. Allocation would be based on 1972 purchases.
Don ald H. Segretti, a political operative backed by Nixon funds, pleads guilty to three Florida related misdemeanor charges from the 1972 Democratic primary. He agrees to cooperate with prosecutors, and sentencing is deferred.

Two men who fled federal custody in Lexington were captured near Cincinnati at Fort Thomas and charged with killing six people including a Lexington minister and his two children during their flight. Authorities say the suspects were arrested shortly before 2 a.m. EDT.
About 3,700 construction workers at the James M. Gavin Power plant remain on strike after the Boilermakers Local 105 contract expired. Officials say wage items hinder a new contract but a mediation session in Cincinnati is set for Friday. The $488 million project continues with one year left to first unit and a 1975 target for the second unit.
