Water main valve left open drains 600000 gallons
Nelsonville reports a 600000 gallon loss after a new 1.5 inch plastic water line at the Tri-County Vocational School trailer court blew as pressure rose from an open valve. Water stored dropped from 16 feet to about 12 feet as crews pumped to maintain reservoirs.

Rate Hike Ordinance Is Signed in Nelsonville
Nelsonville City Council approved a water rate increase on November 14 and Mayor Donald W. Bumgardner signed the ordinance. The new rate takes effect January 20, 1974 with the May billing. The 6,000 gallon quarterly minimum rises from 8.40 to 12.60. Citizens circulate petitions opposing the expansion of water mains into York Two and seeking a referendum on the rate hike.
