Athens faces acute fund shortages threatening November and December expenses and salaries for firemen policemen service director safety director mayor and council. City officials warn without funds or new revenue, workers may quit, jeopardizing insurance and city services.
Athens County high and grade schools close for vacation at end of Wednesday session and reopen Monday morning. Third month of school ended Friday with satisfactory work and good attendance. Christmas break begins Monday December 21 and ends Wednesday January 2 1920.

A warrant was issued for Ruth Bolling a Brockton High School senior on two counts of breaking and entering and larceny. She could not be located as police report her in a nervous breakdown confined to an institution. She is the third Brockton High student tied to a burglary investigation where loot totaled thousands.
Three bandits won a high stake bridge game in Chicago taking $31,450 in jewelry and fur coats from 12 women guests of Mrs. Evelyn Grosby. One diamond valued at $4,600 was saved by Mrs. Maurice Goldblatt who hid it in her stocking.
In Toledo on November 24 40 year old Kurdys handed his revolver to an acquaintance and said go ahead shoot me. The two men had a dispute before the shooting occurred in a pool room where witnesses say they had been hiding from each other.
Miss Muriel Loominghouse of Wilmington accuses Marshall of blackmail over a three year old automobile ride. The teacher allegedly paid cash and checks demanding more money to keep details secret. Marshall, already convicted of manslaughter in another case, was held in Chillicothe police custody while Loominghouse seeks divorce.
The federal government moved to stop underage liquor sales in Chicago public schools. Judge James H. Wilkerson issued injunctions against 46 alleged speakeasies, some accused of selling liquor to students.
Dr George J Harding father of a President was buried in Marion Cemetery after simple services at Trinity Baptist Church. He died in Santa Ana California from paralysis. Hundreds gathered to honor him as relatives spoke. The body arrived from California and was taken to his home before the church service.
In Cleveland on November 24 Judge James B. Ruhi granted Mrs Mary Klein a divorce from Arthur Klein after she testified he cuffed her with a police bracelet when he left home. The couple married in June 1926 and have a son Carl.
President-elect Herbert Hoover aboard the Maryland battled heavy seas off Maryland on a gale that lashed the clipper bow and flooded lower decks. He remained calm and continued work on Latin American addresses while planning a simple inauguration.
