Athens women crowded the high school auditorium for the four day cooking school under the Athens Messenger. Mrs George O Thurn introduced the session and outlined the program as lectures on one piece meals and other kitchen topics began amid poor weather.
Mrs Thurn, an engaging speaker, blends cooking with talk on home making. She explains the one dish dinner as a complete Sunday supper in one casserole or large salad, served with beverages, bread, and perhaps dessert.
The Rev. Lark W. Irwin, once Sidney pastor, convicted four years ago on a statutory charge linked to the birth of a child by his 10 year old stepdaughter Elizabeth Ladd, will have his case reviewed by the state board of clemency in January.

Colorado National Guard is mobilized for immediate service in the mine strike zone after a deadly clash at the Columbine mine in Northern Colorado. Two miners were killed and about thirty injured as guards and deputies engaged 500 invaders. martial law appears likely.
Thomas J. Donnelly of the Ohio State Federation of Labor says the group has collected clothes shoes and money for three months to aid striking Ohio miners. He notes Ohio faces the worst situation of any state and that efforts focus entirely within Ohio. Clothing collection has run for years with this year marking first requests for money.
In Wallenburg Colorado a morning clash at the Royal Bridehead mines near Aguilar left twelve miners injured and thirty-five arrested after seventy-five strikers, led by women, overpowered four deputies. Reinforcements arrived and a pitched battle followed with the miners. no shots were fired.
In Newark on November 21 Judge William Runyon granted a voluntary non suit in the 333000 legal clash between Jack Kearns and Jack Dempsey. The decision ends New Jersey action though no settlement is reported and Kearns says he will press the case in New York courts where a suit is pending.

Cook Arctic explorer filed with the U S Supreme Court a brief endorsing a federal judge s grant of parole under the new probation law from his 14 years nine months Leavenworth sentence for using the mails to defraud The court will hear oral arguments later this week on Cook s appeal from a circuit court of appeals ruling that voided the probation order after the term of court ended and the prisoner was in prison
Dispatches from Bucharest report that opposition parties in Romania have decided to try to topple the Bratianu government by revolution if they are barred from using ordinary political methods. The decision was taken late today by the pesspate party.
The Athens Messenger publishes the first chapter of The Blazing Horizon by Ernest Lynn on page 6. It markets a new serial tale of adventure and romance with input from notable Southwest and Oklahoma figures and Pawnee Bill Gordon W. Lillie endorsing its accuracy.
Prominent labor figures including William Green of the AFL and John L. Lewis of the United Mine Workers appealed to President Coolidge to convene a conference with miners and operators. They urged investigation of alleged railroad price fixing and cited injunctions restricting miners' homes and speech. Ohio reports six deaths from week end automobile accidents with many injuries. Victims include Aug ust Smith 72 near Bloomfield and William Stringfellow 84 near Findlay. A nurse driver Miss Molly Parks 28 also died in a crash at Cincinnati.
The house ways and means committee began drafting rate schedules for the new tax cut bill amid intraparty and interparty disputes. Democrats push for larger reductions while Republicans favor smaller cuts, with Mellon seeking abolition of the estate tax and a $225 million cap proposed by the administration. Budget Director Lord to consult as final figures are set.
London residents mourn 78 year old George Washington Gillenwaters who died from injuries after being struck by a car last week. He lived in London and Madison counties for over five decades and died yesterday. Funeral services are scheduled for tomorrow in London.
Police say a plot to assassinate Capone and two others was foiled in Chicago. Six men were arrested after officers seized a well equipped arsenal at the Atlantic hotel near Hinky-dinks. Lombardo and Brown are named in the investigation with past thwarted plots noted.
A chicken supper is planned for Wednesday at 7 30 in the Eagles home at Court and Carpenter streets for Athens aerie members and their families. A large turnout is expected as the event is wholly social with dancing after the meal. Committee members are Charles Brown, George Pennell and George Irvin. Ladies of the order will prepare the supper.
Rev William Geinheimer former pastor on the New Marshfield circuit and his wife will be honored by the Richland avenue Ladies Aid society at a special meeting Tuesday evening. The public is invited. Rev Geinheimer is on a furlough.
Washington reports 150000 bituminous miners in several states await a federal aid appeal from United Mine Workers leader John Lewis as talks with mine operators stall. Observers doubt President Coolidge will intervene, while 80000 Pennsylvania strikers watch a meeting with the A F of L and Cooler weather looms. Families face eviction and court actions as operators press vacate orders.
Cleveland ranked fifth among leading U S cities for traffic fatalities in the four weeks ending November 4. Department of Commerce figures show 30 people killed by autos in Cleveland during that period.
