History Repeats Itself In Pomeroy And Meigs County

History repeats itself in the Meigs County area with past rock slides in Pomeroy and oil fever in 1906. The Independent reported sand stone avalanches near the Adams Darling property, four occupants escaping with minor injuries, and later notes on oil drilling activity around Syracuse, hinting at a hoped but uncertain prosperity for Pomeroy Bend. The piece recalls the Pomeroy Opera House era with A. V. Howell, a melodrama, and affordable prices, while noting local deaths and notable businesses and services, painting a portrait of yesterday’s economy and tragedy.
