In Athens the Community Chest drive advances with a $4 014 50 tally at noon, led by the Public Division under John J Woolley. House to house campaigns, ward captains, and solicitors, plus university and school drives, push toward a full annual total as supervisors urge daily reports for a speedy success.
List of Athens businesses and employees contributing to the Community Chest with 100 percent participation noted. The report includes firms like Ohio Electric Athens Junk Company Athens Messenger Logan's Book & News Co and others with many 100% listings. Also notes various individual donors and local organizations. A separate item reports a five month old child in Cleveland suffocated by a blanket while sleeping.
Berlin reports the Nazi paper Bz Am Mittag denounces President Roosevelt as garrulous amid the Lima Pan American conference. It brands U S policy as imperialist and cites U S air rearmament propaganda and alleged Jewish influence in Washington. The piece accuses Roosevelt of seeking continental dominance and ties it to a $5 million bank investment.

In Douglas Arizona officers halt a week long hunt for five year old Jerry Hays after hundreds search Rucker Canyon and a 50 square mile area. Sheriff I V Pruitt says if the boy is not found today he may have been removed by car. The boy wandered from his parents camp last Friday in the canyon.
Ohio Supreme Court agreed to review a lawsuit over the legality of assessments by the Bituminous Coal Products Board District Four against Starr-Jackson Mining Co. The action in Hocking County seeks 480.10 for administrative expenses of the code board created by Congress in 1935. The company argues the law was declared unconstitutional in part by the U S Supreme Court.
