Tom Boston 17 of Letart Falls died from a self inflicted shotgun wound while loading a single barrel 12 gauge gun on the opening day of rabbit season. He died at Holzer Hospital Gallipolis after being transported by truck via Pomeroy where he remained conscious. He was the son of Otto A Boston a Letart Township constable and his funeral arrangements were under Ewing Funeral Home.
Cleveland police court judge Joseph H. Ackerman found 68 year old Lonnie Kimp guilty of beating his dog. He was sentenced to over four months in Warrensville workhouse to pay 200 dollars and costs.
Faust performed in street clothes with canned music and no curtain or orchestra. A stage hands strike over the use of canned records led to a 1,000 strong audience at the Municipal Auditorium. Despite protests, Opera on Tour Inc. continued the production with singers synchronized to recorded music.
Luther Martin IV, 34, heir to a prominent New Jersey family, died when his monoplane crashed while attempting to reach Glenview airport. Cincinnati patrolman Joseph Casey fatally shot a burglary suspect in the line of duty. The unidentified man struggled with Casey, tore his coat, and reached for a pocket as Casey fired three shots. This marked Casey's fourth fatal encounter in 13 years.

On the first day of Ohio's fall hunting season four people died and at least 11 were wounded. Victims include Thomas Lucas, 49, of near Washington DC, who died after a shotgun wound. Thomas Boston, 17, of Leetart Falls, who died in Gallipolis Hospital. W J Lafayette, 40, a Steubenville minister killed near Cadiz when a companion's gun discharged. and W J Rearick, 60, a Dover steel mill roller who collapsed while hunting.
Columbus report shows Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Carl V. Weygandt re-elected by under 5 000 votes. Earlier unofficial tallies had given Weygandt 18 500 margin. Weygandt was the lone Democrat elected to a major state office in the November 8 election. Mail counts list Bricker Governor 1 263 931 and Taft U S Senator 1 252 850 with Democrat opponents trailing.
Maj. Gen. Julian L. Schley ordered a survey and review of navigation and power projects on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. A report will assess substituting dams 20 through 23 with a single Letart area dam to boost navigation and hydroelectric development in Letart Meigs County Ohio.
Gallia County farmer Lewis A. Womeldorff 73 died of a heart attack today while milking at his home near Gallipolis. Surviving are his wife two daughters and son James of Columbus.

Foreign observers report Japanese forces sweeping south from Hankow destroyed Changsha and attacked Dr. Logan Roots, American missionary and bishop of Hankow Diocese, during a clash at St. Michael's Church in Wuchang. Roots was mauled as the flag was knocked to the ground.

Andy Dyke one of Ohio Penitentiary's youngest inmates was released on parole and returned to Methodist Ridge to pursue dairy farming. He killed his mother and wounded his father and a farmhand at age 15, receiving a life sentence in March 1928. He studied dairy farming while imprisoned.

A crowd of 5000 anti Nazis gathered at the docks when the North German Lloyd liner Bremen sailed today with civic religious and patriotic groups taking part.
Alfred P. Sloan Jr of General Motors announced a new program effective January 1 to provide laid off employees with a guaranteed minimum income for the year. The scheme divides workers by service length, offering five year men 60 percent of weekly wages and those with two to five years 40 percent, up to 72 hours pay.
