Prisoners Arraigned and Plea Guilty In Grand Jury Case
Twenty one prisoners indicted by the grand jury were arraigned before Judge Wood Tuesday. Ten pled guilty and were sentenced. Joseph Reed faced burglary and grand larceny charges and pleaded guilty to both, receiving seven years in the penitentiary for faulting Anna Cartright.
Nine Soldiers Indicted in Athens Riot Case
Nine members of the Fourteenth battery U.S. artillery from Fort Sheridan were indicted for rioting after being jailed since September. Sergeant Lott faces an additional assault with intent to kill charge. The case centers on the August 19 village riot with earlier arrests reduced from twelve as witnesses testified, and a trial likely late next term.

Narrow Escape At Coal Mine In Oakdale
Six Continental Coal Company workers were trapped for about thirty minutes when Mine No. 11 cave in near the shaft at Oakdale, two miles NW of Gloucester. They found a air shaft passage to safety using an old ladder, mud and water filled, with no injuries beyond wet clothes as investigators assess the cause.

Typhoid Claims Victim in Local Death
William Holland an 18 year old son of Henry Holland died at his La hrig home Wednesday morning of typhoid fever. Funeral services were held at the Lahrig home and the remains were brought to Athens for burial in the old cemetery.

Horrible Accident Burns Gen Grosvenor Nephew to Death
Will Skinner and Frank Grosvenor from Stewart rode home to Kilvert after a night drinking. Their buggy overturned near Kilvert spilling oil that lit the lantern. Grosvenor perished in flames. Skinner escaped and sought help. Frank Grosvenor, about 46 and single, was buried at Sand Rock church after a large funeral.

Death of Thornton McKnight at 80 in Valley Ford area
Thornton McKnight died at his son Sherman McKnight's home near the hospital on Tuesday at 10 30. He was eighty years old and leaves a widow two daughters and three sons. Senility caused his death. The funeral service will be held Thursday at Valley Ford near Carpenter with Rev Dutton officiating.

Death of John Gray at Local Hospital
John Gray aged 59 died at the hospital Friday from tuberculosis. A longtime inmate of the hospital, he was highly regarded by officials after sixteen years there. He leaves a brother James Gray and sister Mrs. John Brown of Nelsonville who came to Athens for the funeral held Sunday at nine o'clock at the Catholic cemetery.

Death of a six year old Ida Dixon near Pleasanton
Ida Dixon daughter of O V and Jane Dixon died at their home three miles south of Pleasanton after a two year illness. She endured a leg disease leading to amputations in Columbus first above the ankle then above the knee. Funeral services were held in Pleasanton by Rev W S Bush with interment in Pleasanton Cemetery.

Manslaughter charge filed over hospital inmate death
Elmer Jones was found guilty of manslaughter for the death of Stephen Cain an inmate at the hospital last February. Nath Wetherholt and D S Stewart attendants at the ward were indicted by the grand jury. Stewart and Wetherholt were later apprehended and the trio faces trial at the next court term.
