The article reports that Theodore Roosevelt achieved a larger plurality than any previous presidential nominee in history, signaling a historic political turnout. It notes the unprecedented vote margin and the significance for the election landscape.
Early returns show Republicans carrying every doubtful state with large leads. Ohio votes Republican by 200000, New York by 200000, West Virginia by a large margin, and Ohio sends twenty of twenty one Congressmen Republican. National House majority Republicans by 64. Park notes this as the land’s verdict.
Voters cast a small tally as many missed the municipal and township ticke t. Councilmen favored street and fire dept upgrades while finances were kept in check. School board winners include Mrs Palmer Copeland Sayre with McDougall Worstell for short term. Albany visits noted.
In Glouster on November 8, Gen H. Grosvenor and Chas Caldwell spoke to a packed Fencken's Hall crowd of miners and business leaders. The Old Republican War Horse received a roaring ovation as Grosvenor pledged to serve miners again in Congress. The event followed arrival by train and a festive evening with a colored band. Prof Evans attended Otterbein University events earlier in the day.
Grosvenor carries the district with a remarkable 10,414 plurality, following a 4,200 margin two years ago. The result marks a substantial reelection victory for General Grosvenor in the congressional race.
The district convention of the K of P was held in Athens with broad public attendance. Prominent members included J. D. Clark of Dayton grand chancellor Wm Beatty of Toledo and L. W. Ellenwood of Marietta. Prof B Wilson spoke and Williams replied. music by a mixed quartet and Miss Marie Hunter at the piano. The evening session was secret and another candidate earned knight ranker from Valley Lodge Neasonville. Continued on fourth page.
