In Athens County Court, jurors considered the manslaughter case of Cash Tedrow charged in the September shooting death of Boyd Vincent. Tedrow testified his account differed from state witnesses, detailing church events and a confrontation outside the church.
Lingering resentment over the bonus army eviction threatens Armistice Day events at Arlington Cemetery. The local Legion drum corps will not attend Secretary of War Patrick Hurley’s address but will participate in first ceremonies and lay a wreath at the tomb. They plan to honor Eric Carlson and William Hushka, Bonus Army members killed by police last July, while Hurley speaks elsewhere.

A New York report notes Democrats won complete House delegations in 28 states and gained seats in 45, boosting the 1933 House tally to 306 for Democrats, 124 for Republicans, and 5 for Farmer-Labor. The Senate will have 59 Democrats, 36 Republicans, and 1 Farmer-Labor. Only 20 states sent Democratic House members, with North Dakota Vermont and Wyoming among exceptions. California Connecticut Massachusetts New Jersey Pennsylvania and Wisconsin remained under Republican state delegation control.
Washington reports a Democratic push to legalize beer this winter to cover the budget gap. Backers say December legalization could fund the government and avoid a spring special session, claiming beer would add up to 500 million dollars yearly, while dry estimates range down to 50 million.
