Mitchell Seeks Nixon Retraction Over Campaign Excesses

Democratic National Chairman Stephen A. Mitchell urged President Nixon to retract and apologize for campaign excesses. He warned that if Nixon does not disavow such character, Nixon should publicly disown what Mitchell calls assassination by public disavowal. Republican Chairman Leonard W. Three Killed Five Injured In Greenville Crash

Three teenage boys died and five were injured when two cars sideswiped while one tried to pass. The dead were Joseph Jr 18 Richard Roux 18 both Sharon Pa and Matthew Good 18 Sharpsville Rt 1. The injured ranged from 16 to 19 from Greenville and Sharpsville. State Police report McClimans 19 Greenville was passing Thompson when his car left the road and hit a tree.

Wife gets 1 to 10 year term for shotgun slaying

Kathry n Long a 40 year old Piketon wife was sentenced to 1 to 10 years in Marysville Reformatory for the Sept 5 shotgun slaying of her husband Harold 42 in their trailer near Piketon. She pled guilty to manslaughter. Judge Earl D. Parker handed down the sentence. Long worked at the new atomic energy plant in Pike County.

Baltimore police say a taxicab driver Melvin Benton resisted a holdup last night. He yelled and kicked a passenger involved as a second passenger fled. The robber fled, leaving his tweed overcoat in the cab.

In Norwood Massachusetts the mothers of Geraldine Annese and Peter Makarewicz, both fifteen, embraced in a tearful scene after Geraldine’s body was found. Plane Crash At Wright Patterson Injures Two

An FS9 Scorpion two engine fighter crash landed in a cornfield near Wright Patterson AFB. An eight year old girl struck while hurrying to a movie with her twin brother. A four year old boy killed when two cars collided at an intersection with a missing stop sign. A two year old girl perished in a flash fire at her parents apartment. The weekend total reached fourteen deaths in Ohio.

Sheriff Seeks Motive in Pike County Double Slaying

Pike County Sheriff Jess H. Foster planned murder charges against a 62 year old man after a double killing at the Lett home near Beaver. Victims were James A. Lett 54 and Maitha C. Jones 52 visiting him at the time. The slayings occurred Saturday night as Lett was shot through a window and Jones was beaten with a shotgun. The suspect recalled nothing of the events. He and three companions had stopped at the Lett home on their way home from Waverly.
