Athens schedules Memorial Day services in churches and cemetery decorations with flowers. A parade and activities at West State Street tomorrow include tennis and baseball with expected large crowds and many families planning outings during the holiday.
Members of the K. T. Crossen Test of the American Legion will march behind the Tram and Bugle Corps in the Memorial Day parade. Legionaires meet at the Legion home at 9 15 Monday morning. Businesses will close all day and there will be no Messenger edition. City employees have the day off and mail service continues. Court Street will bear Legion flags. A Decoration Day parade and services will be held the mor ning with a program at West State Street Cemetery. The Rev William G Dew will officiate at services at the cemetery with Capt J B Allen presiding. Special services at the Catholic Church will be led by the Rev William G Dew at 7 o clock high mass the GAL R will be present. The a srend Dowd will speak on patriotism and loyalty to God. May Crowning will be held at 7 o clock Sunday night with no white dressed children and flower wreaths at Mary. Benedict ion of the Blessed Sacrament to follow. Leonard s Mass in E Flat will be sung during the service with Miss Josephine Kircher solo parts. Newcome will sing Salva Regina during offertory.
Denver May 28 The question of the Presbyterian Church's continued allegiance to the Federal Council of Churches in Christ in America will be settled Monday. A minority seeks withdrawal over a birth control stance, challenging a $14,800 budget for council membership amid proposals to cut salaries and operating expenses. Rev H McCallister Griffiths urged approving the budget with no federal council membership, calling for time to weigh the issue.
Senator Fesa of Ohio, chairing the Republican National Committee, warned Congress cannot adjourn in time for the Chicago convention beginning June 14. He advised President Hoover against naming a convention chairman from either house. They talked taxes and convention details, noting senators disagree on excise levies versus a general sales tax. Prohibition was not emphasized, though he indicated he would not back a very wet plank.
The aviator Stanlay Jrausner and his wife left Fiord Bennett Airport on a Saturday at 4 97 p.m. in a red Bellanca monoplane with white trim. He carried a fifty hour endurance flight and faced weather warnings from famed fliers Clarence Chamberlin and Roger Williams. His destination remained undisclosed with speculation of London or Paris, as officials prepared to monitor the takeoff.

In Decatur Alabama on May 28 Jack Carter 19 died after a January 20 ride in a coupe with four girls and a man. Carter had predicted his death, refusing to identify his assailants despite sheriff pleas. Investigators released that four girls and a man were arrested earlier but Carter remained uncooperative before death.
New York May 23 Joseph A Brodertel state superintendent of banks was found not guilty of wilful neglect for not closing the Bank of The United States earlier. The bank held 160 million dollars on deposits by about 400000 people. He had been indicted in 1931 on three counts for neglecting duties and one charge of conspiring with bank officers to violate banking rules.

Two persons bound over to Athens County Common Pleas Court by Magistrate C H Porter on petit larceny charges. William Radcliffe of Canannville accused of taking doors and windows from a vacant house owned by Thomas Burkett of Canannville. Byron Gordon, an Ohio University student, charged in a case filed by Victor Kuzma with taking two watches valued at 18 75 dollars.
Constable Vicory, 48, of Madison Township died from injuries after a Dayton driver named Maurice Murray struck him Tuesday, apparently mistaking him for a bandit. Murray was bound over to the grand jury on a manslaughter charge by Deputy Sheriff Dwight Conover.
Youngstown crowds raised 1,251,479 pledged surpassing the $1,479 goal by 1,479 as the community fund drive concluded today. Local organizers credited volunteers and local businesses for the result.

An inmate known as Garet ner was slashed with an old knife during a dispute over tobacco at the Ohio Penitentiary. He received treatment for a facial wound at the hospital. Warden Thomas said it was the first such incident in over a year.
Youngstown report states Eugene Jordan tiny son of residents near Lake Milton died after four months of fragile health. He weighed 15 ounces at birth on January 13 and 44 ounces at death in Clarksville Pennsylvania where mother was visiting. Death blamed on general lack of vitality not recent operation. Columbus report adds William Goodyear 55 indicted for first degree murder in shooting of 25 year old Marie Legge on April 27.
John Hughes Curtis, Norfolk ship builder, was indicted by the Hunterdon County grand jury for obstructing the processes of justice in the Lindbergh kidnapping case. The case schedules Curtis to be arraigned within weeks, with observers noting no new developments in the state investigation.
A Detroit family of three children visited the White House requesting help to free their father, Charles P. Feagan, held on a federal charge in Missouri. The children said President Hoover was kind and promised to review the case records with the Justice Department.

In Strongsville today a village fire station was damaged by an explosion and flames. Volunteer firefighter Carl Winch rushed through the blaze to evacuate the village's only fre apparatus before it was destroyed. He said he did not know the cause of the explosion.
