Allied air and artillery support aided South Vietnamese forces in Sauol and pockets in the central highlands and A Shau valley as authorities reported heavy North Vietnamese and Viet Cong casualties. Hanoi claimed inflated aerial counts.
A Republican controlled Ohio House committee approved an about 8 billion dollar two year budget but left financing unsettled. The GOP plan favors a flat county income tax and a statewide corporate tax, drawing opposition from Democrats and educators who warn of inequities and higher costs for lower income earners.
Eight more bodies were dug up near Yuba City along the Feather River, bringing the total to 20 as the hunt continued. Sheriff Roy Whiteaker reported 15 by Thursday, later rising to 20 with nightfall. One suspect, Juan Corona, 37, was jailed on 10 murders. The killings involved machete slayings of transient farm workers aged 40 to 63. Motive remained unknown.
