Gas rate increase set to take effect June 14
Residents of Athens and seven surrounding Athens County communities will pay 0.64 cents more per thousand cubic feet for natural gas starting June 14, as Columbia Gas of Ohio Inc cites supplier cost increases. The hike adds about 10 cents monthly for the typical gas-heated home. towns affected include Athens, Buchtel, Chauncey, Coolville, Glouster, Jacksonville, Nelsonville and Trimble.

NATO Ministers Meet Pressure on Canada's Pullout Plan

Urban Renewal Case Dismissed In Court
An urban renewal land procurement case has been dismissed from Athens County Common Pleas Court. The City of Athens and Alton Hope administrator of the estate of the late Balnche De Weese reached agreement out of court. Local court records also note a deer crossing accident on Route 7 near U S 50 with Gary Neal Rutherford identified as the driver.
