Mrs J R Harvey Elected to Office In State Club of Daughters
Ohio won the old U S flag of 1812 with its 15 stars and 15 stripes at the state convention of the Daughters of 1812 in Cincinnati. The flag will remain with the Ohio group if won two more years, per Mrs J R Harvey of Rebecca Morris McKee Chapter. The 36th annual council drew members from ten Ohio chapters at Netherland Plaza. Local Rebecca Morris McKee chapter is the fourth largest in the state. Memorial services paid tribute to Miss Caroline McKinstry of the chapter with a grave marker planned at her Memorial Day site. Two Athens district men, Frank and James Harvey of Dorr, will receive 1812 lineage medals awarded to Spanish American or World War veterans proving lineal descent from War of 1812 sailors. Plans to turn John Scott Harrison House at Columbia Park into a national shrine were discussed during a dinner honoring Harrison family members. Mrs William T Buckner, a Harrison lineal descendant, attended. Mrs H B Dienfenbach of Akron, state president, presided and was named delegate to the national convention in October and candidate for national third vice presidency. In the State Officers Club, Mrs James R Harvey of Athens was elected corresponding secretary. The Daughters of 1812 noted the War’s timing limited manpower but valued its legacy to American independence.
