Coroner J J Lane ruled Merrill Creashbaum aged 21 died from injuries in a mine accident at No 6 near Glouster. He was a driver for Peter Creshbaum’s outfit and fell from a front car then was crushed by the second. Funeral services were well attended.

York township to lead Athens county Homecoming delegation
Nelsonville May 25. Citizens of York township and nearby areas met at Dr. Pritchard's office to arrange a large delegation for Athens county Homecoming day on June 14. They seek the fifty dollar prize for largest and best delegation, with transport rates secured at twenty five cents round trip and hopes for a chartered train. If won, prize money goes to a miner’s widow for her child’s treatment.

Memorial Services for Charles Cromley Held at New Cemetery
Memorial services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the new cemetery for Charles Cromley whose death was due to smallpox. The Mohawk Tribe Improved Order of Red Men conducted the rite with many non members present. A memorial sermon will be preached in Athens Sunday morning by Dr. W. L. Slatz at the Methodist church. G A R members will attend in a body, followed by a decoration service Monday afternoon at the cemetery, with I. M. Fos delivering the address. Flowers will be accepted at the mayor’s office.

William Walkingburg dies after train accident in Athens
William Walkingburg of Nelsonville was fatally injured Monday near the K and M depot while boarding a local freight. His death followed lasting injuries from the wreck and ensuing complications. He rode freight trains with Jasper Supplee, who was fined for drunkenness. Supplee later faced jail time. Walkingburg, 23, is survived by his father Isaac. Funeral plans will be announced.

Death of James Sheridan a Canaan Township farmer
James Sheridan 63, lifelong resident and well known farmer of Canaan township near Athens, died Thursday afternoon at his home from stomach catarrh after a long illness. He was single. Funeral services were held Saturday at 9 a.m. in Athens at the Catholic church conducted by Father Caine of Somerset, with interment in the Catholic cemetery.

Elephant Died at London Zoo After Thunderstorm Fright
A London Zoo elephant died after being frightened by a severe thunderstorm. Zookeepers reported the loud thunder and flashes triggered a fatal distress reaction in the animal. The zoo is cooperating with veterinary authorities to review safety protocols.
