Illinois lawmakers increased the sales tax from two to three percent to raise about 3 million dollars monthly for relief. The Senate approved an amendment after the House passed the bill, ending a month long relief crisis as emergency officials expect 5 million dollars from the federal government to cover remaining monthly relief expenses.

Police questioned a 20 year old youth as a suspect in the murder of 22 year old Mrs. Marie Tobin whose unclothed body was found beside her dead dog on a flaming bed. Coroner Henshaw called it a plain murder as an ice pick was found on the bedroom floor. The dog, a small fox terrier, was found in her arms when firemen forced entry. James Tobin, 23, husband, worked in the Republic Steel Corporation's printing department and offered no motive. Neighbors heard no screams or有人 leaving.
Chinese reports Thursday said 100 passengers aboard a small steamer approaching Tsingchih on the Tishui River near Changteh were burned to death when the vessel’s boilers exploded.

He was arrested by officers E and Finsterwald, Charlie Maple, and Leslie Bradfield Aivs Rowland. Athens R. D. 4 resident was fined 5 and costs after pleading guilty to fighting in the street when Officer Carmen Church stopped a Court Street brawl on Wednesday afternoon.
Five civil and three criminal cases in Athens County Common Pleas Court were dismissed by Judge O F Rowland. An indictment against Alvin Mc Daniel for grand larceny was noticed at the request of Prosecuting Attorney Harold J Rose. Affidavits charging Lillian Pritts with selling wine without stamps and Fred Pritts with selling intoxicating liquor were also nollied. The civil cases dismissed include Charlies Howard vs John Lawrence, Nathan Sutton vs Ohio Fuel Gas Co, Tra J Fulton vs J H Boden, Nelsonville Home and Savings Assn vs Ruth Simms, Winfield Snodgrass vs Patrons Mutual Insurance Co.
Alfred Humphrey chief of the Liquor Enforcement Division announced Thursday the dismissal of Robert Wood Ath ens as supervisor of the Toledo District. Wood had been suspended since May 9 after an automobile accident in Toledo and a hearing on reckless driving was held. Harry Smith Lancaster was named temporary supervisor of the district which covers nine counties.
Dr John Weatley Wright age 93 longtime dean of the Medical Department at the old Ohio Medical University and Columbus oldest practicing physician until his retirement last October died Thursday in Columbus.
Jesse M. Lewis a long time attorney aged 76 and blind died in Urbana on Wednesday. A Democrat active figure he previously ran unsuccessfully for attorney general in 1958.

Six naval fliers on a mercy flight died when their Seaplane 6F7 crashed during mid Pacific fleet maneuvers aboard the battleship Pennsylvania. The victims from Leut. Brandenburger to Aviation Machinist Mate Sharpe hailed from several states as the tragedy raised the toll to eight dead from the exercise.
The City of Athena suit against the city school board for water rent from November 1, 1929, to May 1, 1933, totaling $2,795.25, was dismissed in Athena County Common Pleas Court. The city was ordered to pay the remainder of costs.
Ohio mattress sewing centers will restart with shipments of ticking into Ohio late this week. About 20 factories are now idle, and three quarters of the state will resume operations next week as C. C. Stillman, federal relief administrator for Ohio, announced. Northeastern Ohio will receive this week's shipments.
