Mrs. W. W. Barron christened the Mountain State Centennial showboat Omar renamed Rhododendron with a water bottle splash witnessed by 500 in Point Pleasant. Walter M. Windsor, president of Marietta Manufacturing, oversaw the rebuild into a combined showboat and museum to cruise WV rivers during the centennial year.

Cars Wreck at Canaanville Fatal Route 50 Collision
A two car crash on Route 50 near Canaanville killed 46 year old Frederick Paul Farr and injured five Stewart residents including Joseph Cunningham and four hospital workers. Farr, formerly of Chauncey, died at the scene after his eastbound car crossed the center line and struck Cunningham’s westbound vehicle. Cunningham was hospitalized in critical condition. the other five victims were listed in fair condition. Farr’s car then hit an unoccupied farm tractor.
