Nelsonville hosts Senior Citizens Day at the Elks dining room with a 9 am registration and an all day program starting 10 am. A. D. Powell notes speakers from agencies including a bus company on tours and the Social Security Administration among others.
A Nel sonville civil dispute between Harry Breeze Jr and Ray Pickett was settled when counter charges were withdrawn. Helen B Maher of Millfield was ordered to appear in mayor's court on improper backing after a minor accident on the Public Square west side. Her car backed into Esther Smith's vehicle from a parking space in Haydenville.
Logan service director Ed Rutger reported no bids by the noon deadline for the storm sewer project at W Front and Weis Streets. The project, long urged by Front Weis residents, will be readvertised. Council approved the sewer project at the April 25 meeting. Nelsonville parking meter receipts for the week ending May 20 totaled 162.55 dollars per police report.
York Local High School will hold commencement Sunday at 8 p m in the auditorium. Hugh Demoss news director at a Columbus station will speak. 54 graduates enter as the processional with Mendelssohn played by Mollie Jackson and a Graduation Day song by a senior ensemble.
14 pupils will receive diplomas Sunday at 10 30 a m from the First Presbyterian Church kindergarten. The four year old school began Jan 14 with Mrs Joseph Hall as teacher and is church funded. Diplomas feature the class photo and Mrs Hall. A covered dish lunch follows at 11 45 a m and families from Deanville Chapel and Nelsonville are invited.
Birth announcements list Mr and Mrs Donald Fuller of New Plymouth Route 1 a son and Mr and Mrs Ross Elswick of Corning a daughter. Admission notes include George Dailey Nelsonville Robert Cummings Nelsonville Baby Lynn Chaney Athens and several others with multiple residents named across Nelsonville Athens Glouster New Straitsville and The Plains. A window break in Nelsonville involves Janet Ann Forrest 433 Oak St and police investigate. A fire department alarm at Watkins and Canal St in Nelsonville was caused by a motor backfire. no fire reported, handled by Mrs Gerald Bentley.
