Stobart Sentenced For Grand Larceny In Meigs County
George Donald Stobart Jr received a one to seven year term in the Ohio Penitentiary after pleading guilty to grand larceny in Meigs County Common Pleas Court Judge John C Bacon handed down the sentence. Prosecutor Bernard Fultz said the plea was entered last week. Chief Herbert Gilkey of Middleport is confined to Holzer Hospital for observation and treatment.

DAR Selects Its National Candidates
Middleport Meigs County Ohio DAR group organized the Ohio Committee for Sullivan Ticket national offices at a Columbus meeting. Lead candidate is Mrs William Henry Sullivan Jr for president general with Miss Amanda Thomas Ohio organizing secretary general. Fred W. Crow was appointed counsel for Jack L. Oiler 34 of Middleport charged with the shotgun slaying of his wife Anna Margaret 33 at their home on Feb 16 Judge John C Bacon declared Oiler indigent. Oiler faces second degree murder charges in the death of his wife.

Vocational School Plan Moves Ahead in Meigs County
Meigs County Farm Bureau Federation trustees met at the Landmark building to chart a public meeting on June 5 to discuss establishing a vocational high school in Meigs County. Civic agencies and educators will be invited, and workmen's compensation for farmers will be reviewed. They called strip mine legislation progress slow and planned letters to Farm Bureaus in Southeastern Ohio plus a 16 millimeter film of the damaged area.

Bradbury Elementary Holds Annual Picnic At Kgger Creek
About 400 children parents and teachers attended Bradbury Elementary School’s all school picnic at Kgger Creek Recreation site. Mrs Robert Morris and Mrs Roberta Jeffers chaired the chicken dinner. The eighth grade class plans a trip to Columbus Thursday with teachers Edith Forrest and Thelma Dill. No school Monday. students return for grade cards Tuesday.

The Meigs County Democratic Central and Executive Committees were formed at a Salisbury School meeting Monday night. Officers include Chester Erwin as central chair, Lewis Long as central vice chair, Phyllis Hennessy as secretary treasurer, and Charles Diehl as executive chair with Don Mullen as executive vice chair. Phyllis Hennessy named secretary and Woodrow Zwilling treasurer.
