Lancaster Radio Man Describes Starting AM Station

Logan Rockhold of WHOK explained at a Kiwanis Club meeting that the first step to start an AM station in a small town is a frequency survey and construction permit from the FCC, a process costing about 5000 dollars and not guaranteeing a license. He outlined ongoing government oversight, final licensing decisions, and touted radio as vital for disaster response and community services. He noted television won’t replace radio and praised local schools for weekly Lancaster programs. Raymond Lanning was named official delegate to the Atlantic City convention. Robert Grewe was program chairman. Dick Gerken Jr. and L. D. Peoples attended as guests.
