Point Pleasant in West Virginia undertakes annual motor vehicle inspections to remove unsafe cars from highways. City, county and state officials outline dates, fees, and station licensing with aims to boost milk consumption and reduce accidents.
Preparations are under way for the annual poppy sale by American Legion Auxiliary Post 23 in Point Pleasant on May 28. Unit chairman Dr. D. G. Wilfong and auxiliary President Freda Fruth announced the effort to raise funds for disabled veterans. The nationwide poppy program produces about 25 million copies by 12,000 disabled veterans with proceeds aiding local veterans. no fixed donation amount is required.
The Point Pleasant A 1 County 4 H Leaders Association will hold a meeting Saturday at 8 pm in the Point Pleasant High School home economics building. Mrs Emmett Mitchell will preside.
Two car crash lawsuits were tried in Mason County circuit court. Janet Gandee sought 15000 for injuries after a crash on Route 62 near Camp Conley involving Leroy B. Roush. the jury awarded Gandee 850. J D Lacy sought 725 from Wilbur Stewart after a October 16 1953 crash following a Stonewall Jackson Point Pleasant football game. no recovery was awarded. The Lacy car was wrecked. Stewart’s son Jack allegedly drove and was alleged negligent. Route 17 crash location uncertain.
Christopher Lee Eubanks about 45 was hospitalized after his taxi ran off Jerricho Road near Point Pleasant and crashed into a tree. He suffered fractures to his right leg and arm and a broken jaw. The Burns and Church Yellow Cab Co. of Wheeling owned the vehicle. The sheriff's department investigated the 2:30 pm crash after Eubanks had picked up a fare yesterday morning. The wreckage was estimated at 500 dollars.
A National Guard truck and a Mohr-Arnett funeral home car driven by Lawrence Mohr collided at 9 15 am Tuesday at Sixth and Viand. No injuries. Mohr’s car suffered heavy damage to left front and right fender while Craig’s 2 1/2 ton truck appeared undamaged. Both drivers were attempting right turns from Viand onto Sixth.
At the final meeting of the Central Parent-Teacher Association last night at the school new officers were named Rev. Kenneth Chandler president Eugene Ball vice president Mildred Wamsley secretary The evening also noted a special program for Masons at the Masonic Temple and a post meeting at Legion Hall with remarks on a carnival and spring activities.
Point Pleasant High School announces summer school setup with a June 3 meeting at 10 am led by director Leon Putz. The five week program from June 6 runs five days weekly and offers full high school credit. All courses depend on demand and Mason County instructors teach the classes.

The Scott family company issues 5 percent cumulative preferred stock at 100 dollars a share to finance expansion. Proceeds redeem 4 900 shares of Series 1953 stock at 103 dollars plus accrued dividends and help fund a new 1 million dollar chemical plant southeast of Marysville for Turf Builder products and R D coordination. Projections expect five years to repay savings from expanded production.
