The Fraternal Order of Police lodge sponsors a county bicycle event at the county fairgrounds on May 27. Sgt Clyde Beasley Jr chairs a day of races for Athens County youths 16 and under with divisions by age and events including a 50-foot slow race and a one-half mile free-for-all. NYC Bank Submits Best Renewal Bid
First National City Bank of New YorkCity submitted the low bid Tuesday for renewing a 1 020 000 preliminary note to finance the Athens Urban Renewal project. The note renews for one year at 2 79 percent with a 40 premium to the city. Morgan Guaranty Trust offered 2 90 percent with a 22 premium. $700 000 will pay off an original private loan and the rest funds operating costs and property purchases. The TOR project costs come from federal funds or credits for Ohio University land purchases.
