Ohio lawmakers push for state employee pay raise and budget vote

Ohio leaders prepared for a Senate vote on a state employee pay bill and a $49 billion two year appropriations plan. Committees called for hearings on key measures including self retired revenue bonds for industrial use and a Bureau of Mental Retardation. The pay bill would raise 43000 workers with a 1 percent July 1 increase and a 5 percent one year later, with certain roles receiving immediate boosts after governor signing. The minimum wage would rise to 1.40 an hour to meet the federal floor. Senators approved three bills and the House endorsed several measures, while health districts gained easier contracting authority.
