Lindbergh declares his plane ready and awaits favorable weather as Acosta endures a tense short test flight at Bellanca camp amid mounting nerves.
In New York, Bert Acosta test flew Byrd’s Fokker for 25 minutes with 11 250 pounds aboard and reported solid performance. Bellanca, under strain from Chamberlin and Acosta, faces contract and equipment disputes as Levine backs the flight and Lindbergh’s calm, popular leadership grows.
Floyd Streitenberger former Canton policeman faces jury after judge schedules verdict in the Replot case. Prosecution ties the murder plot to Ben Rudner and Pat McDermott with Mazer’s testimony claiming Streitenberger urged them on. Defense raises an alibi.

Athens city council authorized H R Allensworth, Columbus accountant and engineer, to audit Logan Gas Company books to determine a just natural gas rate for the city. He will assess revenue, expenses and reproductive costs, attend hearings and testify, with a $300 fee approved. Ordinances also approved bonds in anticipation of special assessments for Lorene avenue projects.
Rural carrier A. K. Oliver retires after 25 years of duty covering mainly two wheeled carts. He estimates 320000 miles traveled, equaling about 15 trips around the world, during which he wore out ten or a dozen horses and as many vehicles. A planned home celebration was postponed due to his brother Daniel’s death.
Oil activity rises in Athens county as five wells begin in the Fisher field and one on Athens State hospital lands per A. D. Townsend. Additional wells, totaling six or seven, are planned in the Fisher field, all targeting the Berea sand about 1150 feet deep. Local drillers and several companies move crews and outfits to nearby farms for multiple new wells.
Graduation exercises were held at Coolville High School last night. Eighteen students completed the township high school program, eleven girls and seven boys. New Orleans May 17 One of the disaster epics was Captain E G Cherry of the U S S Allegheny who breached the Big Bend crevasse to reach 2000 stranded Plancheville residents. He led three men in a surf boat then guided more boats through the flood to safety on the east levee.
Mrs E Chamberlin of Deni In., mother of pilot Clarence Chamberlain, expresses faith in his success for the New York to Paris attempt. She says prayers will suffice if that is all that’s needed.
Columbus officials approve coal contracts for next year. The board of education awarded 15 000 tons of lump Ohio coal to Bell Coal Co at 4 24 a ton from Freeport docking mine Deanville Athens County. Burns Coal Co will supply 290 tons of nut pea and slack coal at 3 74 a ton for Central High School.
The Athens county commission voted to allow up to 25 dollars annually for memorial post services in Athens Nelsonville Glust and Buchtel. Posts include G A R Spanish War Veterans and American Legion with some consolidations. They also ordered old newspaper files 1860 onward transferred to the Ohio State Archaeological and Historical Society for access or return. Road viewings were planned to assess township road improvements between Albany Fisher and Town House roads.
Washington May 16 The federal oil conservation board chaired by Interior Secretary Work notified Walter C Teagle president of Standard Oil of New Jersey that it would hear a committee of oil executives formed in New York on May 238 to draft plans for coping with over production.
Weather bureau issued flood warnings for the Willamette river at Portland Oregon and the Columbia river at Vancouver Washington. Warnings indicate stage rises by Thursday or Friday with considerably higher stages next week.

Columbus date May 17 Senator George H Bender of Cleveland filed with Secretary of State Clarence J Brown forms of his petition to call a referendum on the Marshall bill permitting justice of the peace courts to resume operations.
Ossining N Y May 17 Ruth Snyder and Judd Gray face death in the week of June 20 after a court appearance. A reporter rides in the grey limousine to Sing Sing with Ruth who, all in black, shows no fear and voices hope of returning someday. The scene is marked by crowds and a somber mood as she travels to her fate.
One hundred twenty four junior department students will move to the senior department this spring and take part in commencement in the high school auditorium on Thursday night June 2 at 8 oclock. The program theme is Interesting Facts Concerning Our Own State with six speakers.

Government workers mobilize in Ohio and Michigan for a compulsory cleanup on ten percent of last year's corn fields. Farmers face costs of four dollars per acre to plow under and five to six dollars for burning remains, with notices given to voluntary cleanup within 48 hours.
Marietta May 11 farmers warn of increasing spread of the European corn borer in Ohio.
