Athens Board seeks two mill levy for education in 1946
Athens City Board of Education announces a proposed two mill tax increase to counter anticipated teacher shortages and rising costs. Superintendent Harper C. Pendry cites coal bills, general expense hikes, and debt-service adjustments to explain the need while noting total rate will match 1945 level after accounting for debt changes. The board stresses support for adequately paid teachers and indicates local taxes for schools won’t rise beyond prior levels.
