Miners Escape After Ming Mine Explosion in Avella
In Washington Pennsylvania on May 16 two miners died and about 400 men were trapped in the Powhattan Mine at Avella after sparks ignited escaping gas. It took over 80 minutes to reach the surface as rescuers fought to reach the shaft.
