Beacon School Seeks 100 Percent Levy Increase
Beacon School officials plan to ask the county commissioners for a 100 percent increase in the 3-mill operations levy to cover a growing deficit at Beacon School, serving 57 students from preschool to adults near Athens. The board cites rising costs, transportation, and staffing as reasons, with funding from other sources not fully meeting needs. An after noon open house at Beacon School is planned for May 25.

Students Pay Tuition With Barley
About 30 needy rural students at the Saskatoon campus of the University of Saskatchewan will pay next year's tuition with barley. Albert Chambers proposed the idea to Prof. J. M. Bell, head of animal science, who said the department could use about 15 000 bushels of barley for feed. The university board of governors approved the plan last week. The vice president Dr. L. Barber lamented wishing it could cover 3 000 students, not just 30.
