Filipinos Vote on Constitution for Independence
The February completed charter faced mainly Sakdalista disapproval. Tomas Cabilli of Mindanao Island was the lone opposing convention member. Women voted for the first time in a plebiscite projected to print 3,000,000 ballots for about 200,000 eligible women. If a majority favors the charter, the mass vote signals independence and sets a 30 day canvass to Governor General Murphy for scheduling a Commonwealth election likely in September.
