A 9 year old girl from The Plains, Sharon A. White of 8 Mound St., died when her car smashed into mailboxes on W. Union Street near Herrold Avenue in Athens before 3 a.m. Monday. The vehicle went down an embankment into the Hocking River, then drifted and submerged. police and fire crews recovered it with help from a wooden plank sticking from the windshield.
