Attorneys for Cliff Bean and the city zoning board have agreed to dismiss the case from Common Pleas Court within 30 days. The zoning board also declined to act on John G. Cline's variance request to build a commercial structure in a two family zone.
In a zoning dispute, Cliff's Super Market owners at 284 E. State St. seek to restore a variance granted in 1964. The Common Pleas Court hearing was to proceed Wednesday, but attorneys agreed Tuesday night to dismiss within 30 days, with possible zoning board reconsideration and a move to the city planning commission.

Donald J. Benson of Athens received the Bronze Star Medal at a campus ceremony for meritorious service as an Army major in Viet Nam from 1962 to 1964. A Michigan State graduate, Benson served 14 years in the Army with tours in Korea, Panama, and Viet Nam before retiring in January and later becoming assistant director at Ohio University’s Institute for Regional Development.
