Rev. McMillen Installed As Presbyterian Pastor In Middleport
In a formal ceremony at First Presbyterian Church Middleport the Rev Homer G McMillen was installed as pastor by Athens Presbytery ministers. The service featured installation prayers sermons and charges to the congregation with remarks on breaking down walls of race and creed. Dr McMillen brings decades of Presbyterian leadership including roles as Moderator and Stated Clerk and previously served in Mt Vernon St Clairsville and Kenton. He and wife Della Welch have two children. a son in Canal Fulton and a daughter serving Christian education duties in Burlington Ohio.

May Day Tea Welcomes Garden Club Members at Rawlings Home
A silver tea hosted by the Middleport Garden Club at Mrs. R. H. Rawlings’s Western Halls in Pomeroy drew 165 members and friends from Southeast District and Mason County. Guests enjoyed a musical program by Mrs. John Duffy of Columbus and Gene Grate with accompanists, while tables featured spring bouquets of columbine and Dutch iris.

Arriving at Party Wife Learns Husband Killed
Mrs H N Stinson, president of the Albany Garden Club, arrived with fellow members at Mrs R E Rawlings home for a Middleport Garden Club tea and was told to call long distance. She learned her husband, road contractor and Stinson Quarnes owner, had been killed when a dump truck fell on him at noon while he worked.

Meigs County War Veterans Service Director Leon Vaughan announces surplus property set aside for veterans. All passenger cars station wagons motorcycles motor scooters and trucks up to 2% tons are exclusive to veterans under the O’Mahoney Monaste amendment effective May 6 1946. The on the job program for Farmer Veterans is ready to begin with subsidies to single and married men. Veterans may apply with discharge papers or certified copies and stop by the service department.
