Convicts Fire Chelter Tents After Prison Riot
Ohio officials report a violent escalation at the Ohio Penitentiary after a night of unrest that followed the cell block fire a week earlier. Guards used a machine gun to quell tents being set ablaze as 600 prisoners remained in the stockade. Cleveland May 3 WPI District Attorney Wilfred Mahon was refused permission to file suit to block the merger of Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company with Bathiernan. A letter from Assistant Attorney General John Lord J Brign said there is not sufficient evidence the consolidation violates the Sherman Act to warrant legal action. The Department of Justice did not state whether it would seek further evidence.
