Queena Prince, Athens High School graduate, received a 2015 Herman Humphrey Scholarship worth $1,000 from The Plains Alumni Association. She will study international studies at Ohio State University. The Tuppers Plains Chester Water District issued a boil advisory for Huckleberry Road from Township Road 164 to Hockingport to repair a mainline leak. The advisory lasts until 4:30 p.m. Thursday. A boil advisory also affects Winner Lane in Rome Two until 4:30 p.m.
Second graders at Athens City Schools toured a Chesterfield Produce Auction learning hands on about soil composting and bean planting at a mobile farm day funded by the USDA. They cooked a spring salad, bid on produce at a mock auction, then donated goods to local food pantries and received tomato plants to take home.
Waterloo Fire Department received a call about a hiker lost in the Waterloo forest. Using a cell tower ping, Athens County 911 coordinated with Ohio Department of Natural Resources and ACEMS. Firefighters located the man by phone after 30 minutes. he was exhausted but unharmed and returned to his vehicle.
