Ten Indicted by the Jury at Nelsonville Court
The grand jury, in session since April 2, returned ten indictments Thursday morning. The cases include illegal voting by J J O Roourk and charges of cruelty to animals, assault, larceny, threats, and adultery involving residents of Nelsonville, Rome, Troy and Waterloo townships. Several defendants pleaded not guilty with trials set for May, while O Rourk was sentenced to one year in the penitentiary after pleading guilty.

Attacked by Robbers Near Amesville Bridge
Amesville May 5 Arch Johnson was held up Wednesday night by two highwaymen at the west end bridge. They slashed his coat and rough handling occurred as they attempted to force a drop on him. The suspects placed guards at both ends of the covered bridge, a target for criminal deed.

Canaan Road Case Heard Here Saturday
The Canaan township road case reached a verdict for defendant Samuel Kirkendall in probate court after a two day juried viewing. Viewers set damage at 75 dollars, below owner William Tedrow’s claimed amount, with twenty witnesses and numerous residents present. The cost is expected to total about 100 dollars.

Fatal double shooting and suicide in Sand Run
In Nelsonville on a Sunday afternoon Charles Dankle, a Sand Run miner, shot his brother John in the chest and wounded his father in law Mr Lanning with a failed murder attempt before killing himself. John Dunkle survived his wounds, and doctors believe he will recover.

Death of Former Resident Charles White in Jackson County
Charles White died Saturday April 25 at his home in Jackson county after a prolonged illness with Brights disease. He was brother to Robert White of this city and had lived here many years before moving away. His death is a real loss to the community and funeral attendance from Athens included Robert White Alex Cochran Mrs. T. M. Pickering and daughter Miss Nelle.

Death of Cyrus Barnhart in Ath ens after pneumonia
Cyrus Barnhart died at his North Lancaster home Sunday night from pneumonia. Born September 1827 in Washington county, Pa., he lived in Athens since boyhood. Funeral services were held Tuesday at his home led by Rev. T. L. Lowe, with burial in the old cemetery. He is survived by his wife and two children Miss Mary Barnhart of Columbus and John Barnhart of Porterfield, who attended the service.
