Wild Turkey Festival marks McArthur bicentennial year
The 31st Wild Turkey Festival in McArthur runs May 7 to May 10 at Routes 50 and 93 with town-wide events. Highlights include an Open House at Village Hall, a new Images of America book signing by Deanna Tribe, and performances by Chris Higbee Beatlemania Magic Backwards Band and more. The turkey calling contest and mother-daughter lookalike contest return, along with karaoke finals and the Grande Parade on Saturday night. A new queen will be crowned after the parade.

AEP equipment failure leaves thousands in the dark
More than 4,000 AEP Ohio customers in Athens County faced a power outage after a piece of equipment failed at AEP's Poston Road station in The Plains. The outage affected The Plains Glouster Trimble Millfield Jacksonville Athens and Murray City. Power was restored by 7 a.m. with some customers back earlier as circuits were rerouted.

Athens to mark 80th Social Security and 50th Medicare ages
Athens City Council and Athens County Commissioners backed Social Security Medicare and Medicaid as milestones approach. The county celebrates May 13 at noon at the courthouse with speakers cake and giant birthday cards. About 15 000 county residents receive Social Security and over 9 500 receive Medicare while more than 15 000 benefit from Medicaid. The events are free and open to the public.
